No
more traffic, appointments or meetings. Leave it all behind!! Join us in an
escape to the beautiful Bahamas. Here you will find crystal waters tinted a
thousand shades of blue and green, sweeping white sand beaches lined with pines
and palms, breath-taking sunsets and uncommon diving adventures that will last
a lifetime.
More than an escape, a Blackbeard's Sail/Dive Cruise is a
great adventure above and below the sea. Experience incredible coral gardens
decorated with schools of fish and colorful walls plunging from shallow to
infinite depths. Diving generally consists of four dives per day, daily night
dives, wreck diving, deep diving, drift diving, and spectacular underwater
photo opportunities. In addition, an adrenaline
pumping shark dive is included. During January, the water temperature averages
73 degrees, so a 6mm wetsuit is recommended. Nitrox is not available, but the
on-board compressor quickly refills your aluminum tanks during your surface
intervals. After a fine meal, you can enjoy a cocktail (beer, wine, and rum
drinks are included) under a starry, moonlit sky. Later, explore a deserted
beach or prepare for a night dive.
For
those sailors in the family, you will be able to assist the crew in sailing
anytime during your vacation, just get the captain’s permission first! Fishing
gear is also provided for those hearty souls looking to fill the cook’s frying
pan for dinner. Lobsters must be caught without the assistance of scuba, but
the reward is well worth it!
We will be departing for Miami Friday night in order to rest
up for this exciting week of unlimited diving. On Saturday we will be departing
Miami at 3:00 p.m. setting sail for the Out Islands of the Western Bahamas
aboard our 65' sailing vessel, which is fully Coast Guard approved and
certified to carry 23 passengers in complete comfort. Fully air-conditioned
oversized berths with privacy curtains assure a peaceful night's sleep. You
will find a shower equipped with a fresh (please limit yourself to 30 seconds
daily!) and saltwater tap, a VCR, and ocean kayaks on board. Each of the
vessels carries around 1,800 square foot of sail, has a 135-horsepower diesel
engine, a minimum of two captains, Dive Master, first mate and a cook. We will
make our crossing through the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas that night.
The main
deck offers room for guests to socialize, or perhaps simply get away from each
other with a good book, an afternoon siesta, or simply a bit of personal
revelry. There is something about being out to sea, the sound of the waves
lapping on the hull and the breezes ruffling the main sail that is especially
conducive to profound thoughts.
Meals are served family style in the main salon. Three
complete meals are served daily, as well as snacks and fresh fish or lobster,
in season, when caught. There is always a hammock of fresh fruits and
absolutely killer chocolate chip cookies for those between meal snacks. A
selection of beverages is always on hand, from soft drinks and lemonade to
beer, wine and rum punch.
There is no set itinerary, we go where the diving conditions
and weather are the best.
Bimini, Cat Cay, Andros and the Berry Islands will most likely be amongst the
islands we will visit. Evenings are spent at a calm anchorage. One night will
be spent at port in either Bimini or Freeport to give you a chance to enjoy the
famous nightlife of the Bahamas. The End of the World Bar is a little shack on
the beach, with a sand floor and underwear pinned all over the walls and
ceiling. Apparently, this is quite the tradition at this bar. The Angler, which
was one of Hemmingway's old haunts, features dancing and the local brew Kalik.
They have a hook on a wall and then a ring dangling from string attached to the
ceiling. You need to swing the ring and try to get it on the hook. It was a lot
of fun, especially if you are already a little tipsy and can be played all
night. We return to Miami Friday by 9:00a.m. and arrive back into Phoenix early
Friday night.
